Dateline: June 2, 2005: Not only does Miguel Hernandez teach Uspanteco children how to read first in Uspanteco and then in Spanish, but now in Ja Re Kawinak [House of our People] he is teaching adults so that they can receive their diplomas for primary school (First thru Sixth) education. Before Miguel started working in the Uspanteco Center as a literacy teacher and first draft translator, he was a teacher for CONALFA, an adult education program of the Guatemalan government designed to give adults an opportunity to learn to read and write and/or complete their grade school education. Yesterday, as we saw the Uspanteco Center being used for yet another purpose, we had joy in our hearts that our co-workers, as well as other adults in Las Pacayas, have this chance to complete their grade school education.
