There are many low power FM stations, sponsored by Catholic and protestant churches all over Guatemala. Scripture based radio programs in Uspanteco is one of the most effective ways to share the Uspantec New Testament with the Uspantecos. Practically every Indian family owns a radio. In fact when there is extra cash in the pocket, that is one of the first things a young person will buy.

Radio listening in field web.jpg (97306 bytes) Radios are carried to the cornfields to listen to as one works.

Radio listening in home web.jpg (90499 bytes) Radios are turned on in many homes before the sun comes up.

Radio Arco equipment web.jpg (72112 bytes) The broadcasting booth and transmitting equipment at Radio Arco Iris. It costs the Uspanteco ministries $5.26 for 1 hour of broadcast time.

Radio Arco building web.jpg (55528 bytes) Home of Arco Iris in Uspantán. Because of the low wattage of the radio station {That silver and black pipe on the top of the building in the upper center of the picture is the transmitting tower.} and the presence of the Uspantán mountain sitting between Uspantán and Las Pacayas, the 10 hours of Uspantec radio programming cannot be heard in Las Pacayas. So...

Radio Luz building for show web.jpg (57642 bytes)  Also available for the Uspanteco listening audience in Las Pacayas are the daily radio programs broadcast by Luz del Mundo (Light of the World) radio station.  Altogether, 3 radio stations broadcast 22 hours of Uspanteco materials every week.

Radio Cristobal at Center broadcasting.jpg (140791 bytes) The radio programs are recorded by Cristobal in the McMillen's home in the room that doubles for Margot's office, guest bedroom, TV viewing room, and literature storeroom. The thick adobe walls of the house are great sound insulation material.
