Margie and Stan were rejoicing that they had the chance to be in Las Pacayas with Rebeca de Franco and her four volunteers as they, Cristobal, and Julio led Vacation Bible School, version 2006.  This year's topic was:  The Good News About Jesus.

It was very cold in Las Pacayas the first 3 days. [In fact there were record lows for these dates in

various parts of Guatemala.]

  [5 p.m. November 19, 2006]

The team from Guatemala City arrived after an 11 hour bus ride and are greeted by the well-known Las Pacayas fog. The damp fog that can settle in the valley will chill one to the bone very quickly.    Very hardy souls they are and we so appreciate the great effort Rebeca and her team of volunteers made to share the Gospel with so many children.

Even though it was so cold the first 3 days

of the VBS, this did not stop muddy shoes and bare feet from coming to the Uspanteco Center

to hear the Good News about Jesus.

In the morning session for ages 3 to 10 the auditorium was filled with

over 220 children every day.  The afternoon sessions were for ages 11 to

14.  The daily attendance in the afternoon was over 80 per session.

A very special session took place on Thursday night.  The team made a special

presentation to the teenagers and young adults of Las Pacayas.

Kimberly led the group discussion for the young ladies.  Afterwards Cristobal told us

that there is a real need for church workers to work with the youth and young

adults in the community.

  Eduardo, clearly presented

the message of salvation thru Jesus Christ  to the group.  Previous

to the message, 20 plus participants really enjoyed the games introduced by Eduardo.

Besides sharing the Word with the children and leading them in songs prior to

the handcrafts activities, the children received a protein enriched hot drink and

vitamins as they were leaving the Center.

And then...  ...on the last day each child received a bag with a booklet, balloons,

and candy in it.

[December 24th, 4 p.m.]

Rebeca had diplomas of appreciation made for all the volunteers.
